5.0.3.0–5.0.3.2

AR5 Users,

Hello and Happy New Year! We hope that you’ve had a joyful holiday season, and that you’re as excited as we are for what the new year holds. The past few months have found us very busy here at Agency of Record as we’ve worked to meet our year-end goals and prepare our 2014 agenda. We’re very happy with what we’ve accomplished in that time and, although we have to apologize for not writing you sooner, we’re eager now to share with you what we’ve been up to. These notes take us through three releases, to version 5.0.3.2. Let’s take a look at what’s new.

Improved Previews and Other CMS Enhancements

Significant changes to section previews mean that you can see how your text and images will appear on your website with previews that are more consistent, reliable, and accurate than ever. We think you’ll notice the difference. Here are some of the other changes we’ve made to core UI functionality:

  • Sortable cards, such as sections on a page, can now be dragged only by the center or far left handle on the card title bar. This prevents accidental sorting when working with options panels and other links on cards. In addition, cards in edit mode can no longer be sorted. A special drag cursor appears when hovering on a sortable handle.
  • In a sortable list of cards, a card that has just been dragged and resorted will be highlighted in blue until the page is reloaded or another card is sorted.
  • Modules in preview and info mode are now open by default. Modules will remain open following actions such as editing and saving, sorting, and assigning, and will stay closed only after you close one manually (using the blue disclosure arrow on the left of the card title bar).

Data Module URL Filtering & Navigation

Data Modules can now be configured to dynamically generate virtual pages—with real navigation—based on a single dataset. With just one module on one page, you can generate, for instance, unique details pages for hundreds or even thousands of products, using categories and subcategories in the navigation and URLs to make browsing easy. The result is weeks saved in production time and hours saved every month in maintenance. A powerful solution for any dataset—contact us to learn more.

AR5 Help Documentation

You may have already discovered and used our new help site, available by clicking “help” in the AR5 navigation, or by visiting https://help.agencyofrecord.com/. On the site, you’ll find detailed information about the AR5 CMS, its features, and its options—information that we hope will help you to work more confidently with your website.

We encourage you to visit the documentation whenever you run into trouble (if you don’t know where to look, try the search bar), and our support team is always happy to help if you don’t find what you’re looking for. Browsing the documentation might also be a good starting place if you want to increase your general proficiency with AR5, allowing you to accomplish tasks more quickly and efficiently.

The documentation is a work in progress, with some features still being documented, and some supplementary articles still in the works. We’ll be sure to keep you up to date as we add new content and, in the meantime, we’d love to hear from you about what we can do to improve it! Send us your feedback by filling out the feedback form, available in the right column on all pages of the help site.

Other Updates, Features, and Fixes

  • Updated jQuery and jQuery UI to versions 1.10.2 and 1.10.3, respectively.
  • Various fixes for jQuery update, including a significant rework of the Library.
  • A list of a user’s groups is now available for display on the user’s member profile.
  • Fixed bug with records sorting on the back end.
  • Submitter’s email address, when available, is now used as the from address on admin email receipts of form submissions.

The changes included in these past few releases constitute a significant improvement to the usability of the CMS and, therefore, a great quality of life improvement for you, our users, as you build and maintain your sites. We’re thrilled about that, and we think you’ll be pretty happy about it too. Happy or not, though, let us know!—we’d love to hear from you.

As the new year gets underway, we here at Agency of Record want to renew our ongoing resolution to deliver great software with exceptional service. As always, we thank you for choosing AR5.

Sincerely,

The AR5 Team

AR5 Users,

The latest update to AR5 is now here, bringing with it a number of improvements to our suite of tools for front-end design. Themes have been expanded to include more types of page content, and you can now create and define custom module styles that you can apply, on the fly, to modules on the page.
